Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Modi passed away. He was suffering from serious cancer. He breathed his last at AIIMS, Delhi at the age of 72. Earlier, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Modi had retired from politics only last month. He had announced this during the Lok Sabha elections. He had written on social media that I have been struggling with cancer for the last six months. Now I felt the time had come to tell people. I will not be able to do anything in the Lok Sabha elections. Everything has been told to the Prime Minister. Always grateful and always dedicated to the country, Bihar and the party.

Became MLA by winning assembly elections in 1990

Sushil Modi, Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad emerged after the JP movement. These three leaders are considered to be the product of JP movement. Sushil Modi was associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since the beginning. Sushil Modi started student politics in 1971. After this he gained recognition as a youth leader. In the year 1990, Sushil contested the assembly elections and won and became MLA. After this, his stature kept increasing in the politics of Bihar.

Went to Lok Sabha after winning from Bhagalpur in 2004

In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Sushil Modi became MP from Bhagalpur on BJP ticket. In 2005, he resigned from Parliament membership and was elected to the Legislative Council and became Deputy Chief Minister in the Government of Bihar. Sushil Modi has been the Finance Minister of Bihar from 2005 to 2013 and from 2017 to 2020. When NDA government was formed again in 2020, CM Nitish Kumar wanted Sushil Modi to become the Deputy CM. But, the top leadership sent him to Rajya Sabha. It is also being said that Sushil Modi played an important role in Nitish Kumar rejoining NDA this time.
